How often should I test hot tub water?

At least twice a week with a fresh strip. Test again after every shock dose, refill and party.

Can I use pool test strips on a hot tub?

Yes if the strip lists the same parameters. Hot tubs need free chlorine or bromine, pH, alkalinity and hardness as a minimum.

Do test strips expire?

Yes. Once the foil is broken, strips lose accuracy after 6 to 12 months. Always note the open date on the bottle.

Is a digital tester more accurate than a strip?

A photometer gives finer readings to one decimal place but for routine domestic use a fresh ClearSpa strip is accurate enough to dose from.
