Pool Water Clarifier - Poly Aluminium Chloride (PAC)

Liquid pool clarifier that binds fine particles too small for the filter to catch. Restores sparkle to dull or hazy water in 12-24 hours, suitable for sand, cartridge and DE filters.

How to use

  1. Test pH 7.2-7.6 and free chlorine in band before dosing.
  2. Pre-dilute the dose in 10 L bucket of pool water.
  3. Pour evenly around perimeter with circulation on.
  4. Run filtration continuously for 12-24 hours.
  5. Backwash sand or rinse cartridge once filter pressure rises.
  6. Repeat dose if water still hazy after 24 hours.

Dosing guide

Standard dose 25 ml per m³ for routine clarity; double dose for haze recovery. Always backwash filter after each dose to clear bound particles.

How it works

Polyaluminium chloride (PAC) coagulant at typically 8-10% w/w aluminium oxide content, supplied as a stable liquid concentrate.

PAC neutralises the negative surface charge on suspended particles, allowing them to coalesce into larger clusters that the filter can trap. Unlike flocculants, PAC keeps the bound material in circulation rather than dropping it to the floor.

Filtration alone cannot catch sub-5-micron particles; sand filters bottom out at 20 microns. Without a coagulant, fine particulates stay in suspension and water looks dull even when chemistry is perfect.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take?

12-24 hours typically. Run filtration continuously and backwash when pressure rises.

How much do I dose?

25 ml per m³ for routine; 50 ml per m³ for haze recovery. Pre-dilute before pouring.

Does it remove algae?

Algae particles yes once dead, but algaecide and shock are needed to kill living algae first.

Pack sizes?

1 L, 5 L drums.

Cartridge or sand filter?

Both. Cartridge filters benefit most because their cloth catches finer particles after coagulation.

Is it the same as flocculant?

No. Clarifier keeps particles in circulation for filter capture; flocculant drops them to the floor for vacuuming. Different jobs.

What is the active ingredient?

Polyaluminium chloride (PAC) at 8-10% w/w aluminium oxide.

Does it consume chlorine?

No. PAC is a coagulant, not a sanitiser; chlorine bank is unaffected.

Does it affect pH?

Slightly acidic; expect pH to drop 0.05-0.1 per standard dose. Recheck before next pH adjustment.

Water still hazy?

Re-dose; check filter pressure and backwash; verify pH 7.2-7.6.

Filter pressure too high?

Backwash sand or rinse cartridge; this is normal after coagulation.

Clarifier vs flocculant?

Clarifier suspends bound particles for the filter; flocculant drops them to vacuum. Clarifier for routine clarity, flocculant for emergency clear-down.

Clarifier vs super clarifying tablets?

Liquid clarifier is per-dose; tablets give a slow weekly cartridge feed. Liquid for active recovery, tablets for routine prevention.
