Pool Long-Life Algaecide - Non-Foaming Quaternary

Polymer (polyquat) long-life pool algaecide that prevents green, mustard and black algae across an 8-week dose. Non-foaming, copper-free and safe for all pool surfaces.

How to use

  1. Initial dose: 100 ml per 10 m³ of pool water.
  2. Maintenance: 50 ml per 10 m³ every 1-2 weeks.
  3. Dose by pre-diluting in a 10 L bucket of pool water.
  4. Pour solution evenly around perimeter with circulation on.
  5. Run filtration overnight after dosing.
  6. Top up after heavy rain or partial drain.

Dosing guide

Initial dose at start of season or after partial drain. Maintenance dose weekly to fortnightly. Drop dose by half on covered pools.

How it works

Poly[oxyethylene(dimethyliminio)ethylene-(dimethyliminio)ethylene dichloride] at typically 50% w/w, the long-chain quaternary ammonium polymer known as polyquat.

The polymer disrupts algal cell membranes by electrostatic adsorption, killing the cell without consuming chlorine. Its long-chain structure resists rapid breakdown, giving weeks of preventive cover.

Chlorine alone struggles to keep algae out of shaded corners and during heatwaves. A polyquat layer underneath chlorine cuts algae demand and lets chlorine focus on bacteria.

Frequently asked questions

How long does one dose last?

Initial dose lasts 6-8 weeks; maintenance dose covers 1-2 weeks each.

Will it kill existing algae?

Light blooms yes; heavy bloom needs a chlorine shock first then polyquat as a follow-up preventer.

Will it foam?

No. Polyquat is non-foaming, suitable for aerated jets and water features.

Pack sizes?

1 L, 5 L and 25 L drums.

Is it copper-free?

Yes. No copper, no metal staining, safe for plaster and hair.

How long does a 5 L drum last?

Around 12-15 maintenance doses for a typical 40 m³ pool, or one season of fortnightly dosing.

What is the active ingredient?

Polymeric quaternary ammonium chloride (polyquat) at 50% w/w.

Why non-foaming?

Quaternary ammonium algaecides foam; the long-chain polymer form does not, because the active surfactant chains are bound into the polymer backbone.

Does it consume chlorine?

No. Polyquat works independently of the chlorine bank, freeing chlorine for bacteria.

Foaming?

Check you have not mixed in a quat-based algaecide; polyquat alone does not foam.

Algae returning?

Brush more, increase dose, check circulation reaches all corners.

Polyquat vs copper-based?

Polyquat is staining-safe and non-foaming; copper kills mustard algae faster but stains plaster and lightens hair.

Polyquat vs quat algaecide?

Polyquat is the polymer version; non-foaming, longer lasting. Standard quats foam under aeration.
